Family Day at the State Capitol

Family Day at the State Capitol

Families are of central importance to Oklahomans because the institution of the family—defined as people who are related to each other by blood, marriage, or adoption—is the fundamental building block of all human civilizations.

In a free and compassionate society, the public good depends upon the private character of our citizens, which is developed from a child’s earliest days through the love and guidance of family. Therefore, our families—whether good or bad, healthy or dysfunctional—are an essential part of the cultural, social and spiritual fabric that is Oklahoma. We want them to be their best.

Therefore, because of the importance of family, the Oklahoma Family Policy Council each year provides leadership in our state for the Family Day at the State Capitol observance.

On this annual day (generally held in the springtime), dozens of traditional, family-related, conservative social-service organizations gather at the State Capitol in Oklahoma City to remind and ask our legislators to “remember the family” when they are considering legislative bills which impact the lives of Oklahoma’s families.
